The Importance of Being Together and a Celebration of Thanksgiving

Today's Scripture: Hebrews 10:23-25, Luke 17:11-19

Daily Scripture Readings & Reflections

  1. Sunday: Psalm 138:3 (MSG) Thank you! Everything in me says “Thank you!”… “Thank you!” Thank you for your love, thank you for your faithfulness; Most holy is your name, most holy is your Word.

Reflection: What does it mean to have everything in you say “Thank you!” to God?  Try to name specific things about your experience with God for which you are most thankful.

Breath Prayer: Inhale: Today I am thankful… Exhale: for...

  2. Monday: II Samuel 22:49-50 (MSG) You pulled me from the grip of upstarts, You saved me from the bullies. That’s why I’m thanking you, God, all over the world.

Reflection: The writer of this scripture has been rescued by God from a horrible experience.  Can you name anything from which God has saved you? The writer was obviously full of thanksgiving.  How do you feel when you remember what God has done for you?

Breath Prayer: Inhale: Today I am thankful… Exhale: for...

  3. Tuesday:Philippians 1:3-4 (MSG) Every time you cross my mind, I break out in exclamations of thanks to God. Each exclamation is a trigger to prayer. I find myself praying for you with a glad heart.

Reflection:Who is that special person(s) in your life for whom you are eternally thankful?  When was the last time you let this person know how thankful you are for him or her?  If you are praying for this person, how can you let him or her know that?

Breath Prayer: Inhale: Today I am thankful… Exhale: for...

  4. Wednesday:  I Thessalonians 2:13a (MSG) And now we look back on all this and thank God, an artesian well of thanks!

Reflection:Looking back on things can often give a different perspective. Take a moment to look back on some difficult times in your life. Is it possible for you to see any of it differently now? Is there something to be seen there for which you can be thankful? How can you express that with a prayer of thanksgiving to God?

Breath Prayer: Inhale: Today I am thankful… Exhale: for...

  5. Thursday: I Timothy 4:5 (MSG) Everything God created is good, and to be received with thanks. Nothing is to be sneered at and thrown out. God’s Word and our prayers make every item in creation holy.

Reflection: On this day we name as “Thanksgiving” how does this scripture verse speak to you and help you frame what this day is truly about for you?

Breath Prayer: Inhale: Today I am thankful… Exhale: for...

  6. Friday: Luke 17: 16b – 19 (MSG) …when he realized that he was healed, he turned around and came back, shouting his gratitude, glorifying God. He kneeled at Jesus’ feet, so grateful. He couldn’t thank him enough…. Then Jesus said to him, “Get up. On your way. Your faith has healed and saved you.”

Reflection: There is no doubt that the man in this story received more than just cure for his ailment when he came back and gave thanks to Jesus for what had happened to him.  Jesus proved then what science is proving now;  that gratitude is a powerfully healing force in our lives.  In the course of a normal day, how much attention do you give to gratitude?  If you gave it more attention, how do you think it might bring healing into your life (i.e.: love for God, others and self)?

Breath Prayer: Inhale: Today I am thankful… Exhale: for...

  7. Saturday: Psalm 108:3-4 (MSG) I’m thanking you, God, out in the streets, singing your praises in town and country. The deeper your love, the higher it goes; every cloud’s a flag to your faithfulness. Soar high in the skies, O God!

Reflection: The writer of this Psalm used the clouds as a flag to help him remember the faithfulness of God in his life.  What kind of “flags” do you have to help you remember God’s faithfulness?

Breath Prayer: Inhale: Today I am thankful… Exhale: for...
